Welcome to Stages

December Newsletter

December has arrived!  The center has already transformed its main areas with holiday decorations.  Our classrooms have started to plan out their themes for the month revolving around artic animals, snow and winter holidays/celebrations.  If you have a special celebration or a tradition that your family celebrates, we would love for you to come in and share that with us!

Thank you for being you!

General Information:

Three Star Rated Center:  Every year, we have to reapply to be a Step Up to Quality Center.  This year, we applied to be a 3 star center.  Stages completed our Step Up to Quality inspection on Tuesday, November 7.  This inspection took 5 hours with 2 licensing specialists reviewing documents, observing the classrooms and interviewing teachers and myself.  Out of an 8 page document, 1 item had to be corrected and was corrected that day with a new process on how to document progress of goals in the school age program.  At this time, we are awaiting our confirmation of our new star rating.  😊

Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) is a rating and improvement system administered by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. SUTQ recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality program standards that exceed licensing health and safety regulations. The program standards are based on national research identifying standards which lead to improved outcomes for children.

Accounts:  All children’s accounts need to be paid in full immediately, but no later than December 11 in order to reconcile our 2017 tax year.  This includes any late pick up fees or lunch fees.  If you are paying your account after the 1st of the month, there is a $20.00 late fee per child per account.

OU Lab Students:  This semester Stages hosted 10 lab students from OU for their clinical experience.  These students were placed in the infant – preschool rooms.  They will finish their required 40 hours of experience this week.  The lab students provided an extra hand in the classroom and participated in the daily lesson plan activities.  We really enjoyed having them as part of our Stages family!  A bonus perk for us on top of the extra help, when a lab student gets placed with Stages, Stages earns $15.00 per student.  This year, we purchased the Liquid Sensory Tiles (on display in the main lobby area) with the money we earned from this joint adventure.

These tiles have been a HIT with our children, as well as the parents.  I thoroughly have enjoyed seeing the parents in AWE over them!!!!  I have enjoyed walking on them every single time that I walk through the lobby.  If you are interested in purchasing them, I ordered them from Amazon.  The tiles that I bought are from Play Learn and are 19” x 19”.  They have also 12” x 12” inch tiles and all tiles can be ordered separately or as a pack of 6.

Inclement Weather:

Stages Early Learning Center will automatically close if there is a Level 3 snow advisory in Athens County.  For other days where there is inclement weather, the decision to close will be based on the severity of the weather, temperature, the road conditions and the safety of the children and staff traveling to the center that day.  For information on the center closing, listen to Power 105.5, log onto www.wxtq.com, check out Stages Early Learning Center’s Facebook page or check your alerts through the Remind Application.

When Athens City Schools are closed due to snow days, we will hold an All Day Program for school age children who are currently enrolled in the Before/After School programs.  You will be billed for the All Day Program.  The fee for the program is $40.00.  Parents must provide their child with a well-balanced lunch.  For information on school closings, listen to Power 105.5 or log onto www.wxtq.com.

When Athens City Schools are on a one hour delay, the Before School program will run from 7:30 – 9:40 am.  When Athens City Schools are on a two hour delay, the Before School program will run from 7:30 – 10:40 am.  When the Before program is open during 1 and 2 hour school delays, the fee for the delay is $4.00 per the delay hour.  You will be billed for the delay.  Only children who are previously enrolled into this program will be allowed to attend the Before School program on mornings with school delays.  When Athens City Schools are on a one or two hour delay, the After School program will run as scheduled.

If Athens City Schools are canceled during the delay times, we will hold an All Day Program.

In the event of severe weather, we may have to dismiss the program early.  If this is the case, all parents will be notified immediately by phone, e-mail and the Remind Application and asked to pick up their children.
